Greek born conductor Zoi Tsokanou has been hailed to show great promise for her natural ease and musical insight by renowned Bernard Haitink and David Zinman. She has received numerous awards and invitations to international and national conducting competitions. At the 4th Gustav Mahler International Competition in 2013, she participated as one of the 12 finalists and received the First Place to conduct at the Opera in Athens and 3rd distinction at the Fitelberg Competition. Bernard Haitink selected her twice to participate in his master classes at the Lucerne Festival in 2011 and 2012. As a selected conductor for workshops and master classes, she conducted major orchestras such as the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Bamberg Symphony, Festival Strings Lucerne, Zagreb Radio Orchestra, Silesian Symphony Orchestra in Katowice and orchestras in Basel, Winterthur, Zagreb, Luzern, Berne, Sofia, Prague und Karlovy Vary.

In her homeland, Zoi Tsokanou has already conducted the Greek National Opera a number of times and appeared with the leading Greek Symphony Orchestras. In European Opera Houses and Symphony Halls appearances included a nationally televised performance with the Spanish Radio-Television Symphony Orchestra in Madrid, a new production of Gluck's Orfeo Ed Euridice in cooperation with the Dance Theater Erfurt in Germany, the Arosa Festival Orchestra, Regensburg Philharmonic, Erfurt Philharmonic, Biel Symphony and the Georgian Chamber Orchestra.

As an opera conductor she made her debut in 2008 with Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Summer Academy in Teplice. After winnig First Prize for Young Conductors of the Greek National Opera in Athens she has conducted the new Year's Gala Concert in 2013 and performances of die Fledermaus, die Lustige Wittwe and Nutcracker. Other opera engagements followed at the Theater Erfurt, Regensburg Theater, the Contemporary Opera and Pocket Opera Company in Zurich.

Highlights during the upcoming seasons include performance of Verdi's La Traviata at the 2018 Longborough Festival Opera in the UK, Tosca for the Domstufen Festival, Verdi's Macbeth at Theater Erfurt, and engagements in Greece with the Athens Opera and the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra.

Zoi Tsokanou was Bernard Haitink's assistant in 2014 for Beethoven's Missa Solemis with the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich. In 2012 she completed a two year tenure as music director at the Arosa Music Theater in Switzerland and prior to that she was the Associate Conductor in Marienbad, Germany.

Born in Athens, Zoi Tsokanou has degrees from the University of Arts in Zurich, Switzerland and received guidance from David Zinman and the Tonhalle Orchestra, as well as with Stefan Asbury.
